Help us build a coalition for more housing choice in St. Paul
Sustain St. Paul champions “abundant housing:” we advocate for changes to the city zoning code that will allow more housing options in more places. The City’s planning team is currently studying the possibility of allowing up to four units of housing on every residential lot in the city. This is a big deal, because on 72% of St. Paul’s residential land, the only type of home that is currently allowed to build without a variance is a single-family house.
The City released a Community Engagement Summary document in May 2022. The majority of respondents strongly favor allowing more types of housing across the city. Residents know that there is not enough housing for current or future residents, and that the cost of housing is burden to too many in St. Paul.
While we wait for the City’s planning team to release their draft proposal, a group of Sustain St. Paul members is building a coalition of organizations for more housing choice to support the policy when it reaches the Planning Commission and City Council.
